Research #2: Let's Talk About Glass

Alright so here's a fun thought

Where do i even begin to with glass.  a substance that is clear and untainted. Both natural and unnatural, it is the miracle mineral.

Alright so the following is an article in which I researched attributes of glass regarding its carbon footprint on the planet.

HOW GLASS IS MADE

Carbon Footprints of Common Packaging  Link to This ArticlePlastic bottles tend to dominate the conversation on beverage containers. However, there are other containers we use on a daily basis and they have a significant impact as well. The carbon footprint of glass packaging is more than double the impact of using aluminum cans. For example, a 330 milliliter aluminum can of Coca-Cola Classic emits 170 grams of carbon emissions during production, while a glass bottle of the same size had a footprint of 360 grams. These numbers matter because packaging on a can of soda can account for as much as 70% of the overall carbon footprint of the product. The material choice for a can of soda is important; aluminum is highly recyclable and lighter in weight than glass so that the carbon footprint of transporting the products is smaller.Using recycled materials in the production of packaging helps to reduce the carbon footprint because it takes more energy and resources to gather and process virgin material than it does to gather and process recycled material.

According to Food Production Daily, an Amcor-produced PET bottle of 54 grams without recycled content produces an average of 446 grams of CO2 per bottle. Change that to a PET bottle with 50% recycled content, and the figure changes to an average of 387 grams of CO2 per bottle. Using 100% recycled content produces an average of 327 grams of CO2 per bottle. However, we rarely see this level of recycled content for food-grade plastic bottles because using recycled plastic has two big drawbacks - health concerns over what was in the plastic before being recycled and if the material is carried over into the new container (who wants to drink out of something that once contained a toxin?), and structural integrity of the new bottle is diminished. So, plastic is still a pain.

When talking about using recycled material for glass containers, a 365 gram glass bottle with 81% recycled content produces an average of 453 grams of CO2 per bottle. Change that to 92% recycled content and the figure drops to 356 grams of CO2 per bottle. A 496 gram glass bottle also with 81% recycled content produces an average of 523 grams of CO2 per bottle. So, the more recycled content, the smaller the carbon footprint. While using recycled content in plastic containers used for food is difficult because of health reasons, the same is not true for materials like recycled glass, which can be used in high quantities and recycled over and over.

Alright so after I checked that out I also decided to look at the way in which glass is used according to things in the craft realm.
This entire research experience allowed me to find out a lot about glass including just how bad of a carbon footprint it leaves and just how much glass packaging affects the planet in such a negative way. This just amplifies the fact that the innitiative to recycle glass is an important one and by simply doing this we can reduce our carbon immensely. CLICK HERE FOR THE PINTEREST LINK

Convert glass CO2 emmisions to find out the recycling power per aluminium can unit. Alright so nevermind he conversions, as we can tell from the above extract it is far easier to recycle glass than it is to manufacture it, as well as the fact that the more recycled content used in the glass, the smaller the ultimate carbon footprint which is great!
WHICH NGO AM I USING?

Lets start writing this manifesto.

Beautiful
can this word even begin to describe this creature?
Paws the size of a grown mans face
arms and legs of a world class body builder
A natural arsenal of power at its fingertips.
Elegant
Towering above us on its hind legs
wrestling its prey to the ground
every inch of its body, a reminder that
it is and will always be
Weapon
yet a Madonna as it nurtures and cares for huge eyes
Those humbly ferocious twinklers of Love of
Amber; blue; white and golden terrors, that wish only to see their
Mother
Who will take on steel with fangs to defend what
has been left to be taken
and will chew off her arms before we come to break them
Softly
like the fur on her back?
natures 16th chapel, so well painted, should make a good
Doormat
like a soldier who cannot cry for his fallen friends
lays in a heap and has no means of defense
waiting for someone who will never show up
Dead
because like her no one wants to save him
The End

This could also be titles "I'll be gone soon"

Tiger Hand Bag

Alright so maybe I'm not about to make a manifesto about a tiger handbags but hey maybe it was a good idea for a second there. Perhaps now i can go on to talk about something a little less grousome than that.

For example, one thing that I know for sure is that tigers are beautiful and majestic creatures so why not create something that resembles that with a twist in the end. I can give this a wonderful array of beautiful words to invoke feeling into the reader while they create a beautiful image in their mind of a great mythical beast of a tiger who by far overwhelms them.

Then go on to talk about how there are now so few of them and whether or not we WANT them to be around in the future.

Fine-tuning Information Into Insights

You are advertising for a new kind of toothpaste right, seems random and obvious but there is a simple structure in creating advertisements which are a lot more compelling than standard advertisements which incorporate single selling product points which we will come to be familiar with anyway or ignore because other brands offer these same bennefitss this rendering your brands message less significant.

Alright now moving on to an example of that.
we have the product now list the key bennefits, in this case the product of is toothpaste now list the key bennefits.

  • healthier teeth
  • cleaner mouth
  • better smelling breath
Cool beans. now that we have the key benefits we can look into the insights regarding why having this toothpaste would better your life in some way.

  • less trips to the dentist
  • less trips to the dentist
  • better feeling mouth
  • make it easier to talk to ladies
Now to extend what we are saying here, we could point out at this point that we can flesh out these insights into simple advertisements.

  • Now because you have healthier and you are making fewer trips to the dentist, your dentist now has enough time to go on holiday. could include an image of a dentist standing over a patient with tan lines from his sun glasses, after being on holiday and its caption could be that  "With all the trips to the dentist we save you, they'll be able to go on holiday all the time' or something cheesy like that. OR something like an advertisement where the dentists family are so happy to see him finally because of how he's never home but now he is and he could be doing something sweet with them like playing a game of soccer or something like that.
Alright so as you can see this is the kind of grounding we need to have for most of our advertisements now perhaps I could try and include this into some sort of advertisement.

* side note: I was thinking about what I would say for something like an advertisement for the glass ad or even the dog ad and thought about the fact that aliens may never come here because of how we are and how we will never truly be intelligent life.

Process

Alright so now that we know about a couple of things including the idea that white tigers are in fact a lot more like humans than expected I have been looking into different NGO's regarding which of them would fit this quota best. After digging a while I found that there is specifically a WWF branch (World Wide Fund for Nature) in India which is perfect considering that like in South Africa where we have a problem with poaching, they seem to be having that same problem with their wildlife and particularly their tigers. Now I've decided to not concentrate on any one particular species of tiger as this would not be something that strays from the fact that these animals need to be protected. First and foremost lets talk about the message we want to tell people and think about what we want them to feel as well as what we want them to do because this is the driving element. Without this element the article or long copy ad is rendered useless because we need people to do something or want to do something, so that we can get them motivated to making a change.

Messages:

Lets talk about that.
  • You wouldn't abandon your child, a tiger is just like a human. It will not abandon it's children
  • Tigers are just like people, why are we hunting them
  • Tigers are just as intelligent as people why are we killing intelligent life?
  • Is Boner medication worth the life of a beautiful creature
  • Where have all the tigers gone?
  • Do you want your children to grow up knowing you killed me?
  • Am I not worth a second look?
  • do I deserve this
  • I need this fur like you need your skin.
  • you came and you took my home!
  • Can you fight me without that rifle?
  • Can't we share this place?
  • There is enough earth here for the two of us.
  • Soon there will be none of me left to fight for.
  • Helping a little goes a long way
Alright Class so I'm guessing you are picking up on the idea here. You need to be listing as many messages you can think of. These are ideas that need to be put down on paper and made permanent so that in case you run away with one idea and fail there are enough ideas to come back to. This may seem tedious but there are many flaws in every idea and not only that but there is always a better idea!!!

Can I Live with Tigers?

What we have here is actually a very cool little insight on what it's been like for Michael Jamison while living with his Tiger Enzo!

Tiger Research #1

white_tiger

Hey whats up you guys, so here's the deal regarding white tigers according to a very decent Kind of essay written by Sharyn Beach over at Britannica.com who was ever so kind, and wrote a very compelling educational piece about how white Tigers are unable to use their coats in the wild as this color provides very little camouflage which is essential for tigers in catching their prey. Alright first things first.
If you are wondering why there is a Tiger in the background of this post then you are absolutely correct by thinking it is because my favourite part about this brief was earning soo much more about Tigers and all the things that are currently affecting them as well as just how much like humans they actually are.

Introduction To The Brief:Advertorial (Long Copy Ad)

Hey here's a quick intro into the brief which we've been given and what I'm planning on doing as well as the directions I'm planning on taking.
